The United States has given Iraq four extra months to continue trading with Iraq-International

The United States has given Iraq another four months exemption from sanctions against companies trading with Iran, Iraqi official AFP announced Wednesday (4), which will allow Baghdad to import Iranian gas and electricity.

Air supplies one-third of its neighbor’s gas and electricity.

Iraq currently produces 16,000 MW and needs 24,000 to meet demand.

After Washington re-established sanctions against Tehr at the end of 2018, Tehr continues to extend the period agreed with Baghdad to find other energy suppliers.

Although the United States allows Iran to import from Iraq without retaliation, it is blocking its bill from being paid in dollars.

Iraq, which is holding early elections on October 10, is forced to maintain good relations with both Washington and Iran, the US’s declared adversaries.
