On Thursday (16), Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Luciana Santos received representatives of the technology company Huawei to discuss training and digital inclusion projects. Vice President of Public Affairs for Latin America Attilio Rolli explained the work being done by the company, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary in Brazil. He mentioned, for example, the Huawei ICT Academy program, which has established partnerships with more than 200 Brazilian universities.

“We trained teachers in the institutes to train young people to install fiber optics within two weeks,” he recalls. “It is a scarce and much needed workforce.”

He also highlighted the company’s interest in joining forces with MCTI to build a “future of women” in the field of information and communication technology (ICT) and mentioned the “Women in Tech Brasil” program, which seeks to train and employ women. in the information and communication technology sector. The initiative includes projects such as “Meninas do Futuro”, implemented in partnership with Inatel, which aims to support low-income girls across the country to pursue careers in the fields of information and communication technology.

During the meeting, the minister spoke about the importance of science for the country’s development and facing challenges, such as social inequality and climate change. “We consider you a strategic partner. We are very interested in developing a set of mutual learning processes,” said the Minister. “Digital inclusion is an important issue for us. The minister commented, “We seek a path that involves contact and mobilization of Brazilian intelligence in universities and institutes.”
