247 – Former Minister of Science and Technology Jose Israel Vargas on Tuesday (9) issued a letter sympathizing with the scientists who gave up the Medal of Scientific Merit in protest, after Jair Bolsonaro dismissed professionals against using chloroquine against Covid-19 and awarded the honor to himself.

In the document, sent to the president of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC), Luis Davidovich, a former minister during the administrations of Itamar Franco and Fernando Henrique Cardoso, said he believed in victory over the enemies of science. “In particular, the current President of the Republic, who, like all autocrats, is a traveler, as history shows,” declared Israel Vargas.
