The European Union wants all messaging apps to be compatible with each other » iPhone Blog

In its ongoing battle to prevent major private tech companies from taking over the world, the European Union is working on legislation to regulate messaging apps like WhatsApp and iMessage.

In this new rule, larger apps will be required to allow the user the ability to send messages from one app to a different app.

With this, it will be possible to send a message to someone from WhatsApp, for example, using iMessage. vice versa.

This new legislation is still under construction and needs to be voted on and approved in the European Parliament to put it into effect.

global protocol

For something like this to be possible, it would be necessary for companies to adopt a protocol Normal between systems.

There is already a global protocol in the area, but only Google has adopted it at the moment. It’s RCS, and it’s already part of Android.

Apple for years refused to adopt RCS on iOS, as this would allow access to all iMessage features on other platforms as well. However, if the new legislation becomes a reality, apples may not have many alternatives to run.

Unless you create a new, better protocol and suggest it as the default as you did with USB-C.
