The couple built a house on their own in 6 months and now teach others to do the same | Business ideas

Pepe Romero and Eugenia Diaz, 35, had been running a handbag brand until 2019, when they decided to shut down the business to change their lifestyle. They toured Europe with the trailer for a few months and then decided Intensification the house itself.

In an interview with insideThey say the idea was influenced by the experience of turning a car into a travel home. “When we bought our used truck, all the prices we got for converting it into a camper were way too high. We couldn’t afford it,” Romero said. “We had to build it ourselves, and then we realized anything could be done if you put in the effort and study.”

With the renovation project a success, the couple felt confident building a small cabin in the interior of Alentejo, Portugal. “We didn’t want to hire someone to do it, because we had already experienced what it was like to do things ourselves,” Romero told the site.

At first, they were looking for a rundown house that they could renovate themselves. “Renovating an existing building seemed like an easier and more feasible thing to do, but all the rubble we found wasn’t what we were looking for,” Romero said.

With all the challenges of getting the plan right, in a remote location, with restricted electricity, it took Romero and Diaz six months to finish the house. The couple’s journey was documented and shared on YouTube. “Filming and editing all the videos on our YouTube channel slowed us down a bit,” Romero said. “I would say we could build it in three or four months if we build another one.”

After the two shared their journey, the couple’s followers began asking for tips on how to build something similar. This started a new business: selling a manual on how to build a hut.

“We decided to write this guide to help others replicate our design,” Romero said. “All our knowledge and research for each stage of construction is contained in this guide, in which we explain step by step in words, pictures and drawings, what we did, how we did it and why we did it.”

The 130-page manual compiles a complete materials list, as well as recommendations on how to make each part of the cab. To purchase the book, those interested will have to shell out 399 euros. To date, more than 600 copies have been sold, according to the couple.
