The country has 76 deaths and 30,424 cases in 24 hours

On Friday (17) Brazil recorded 76 deaths due to COVID-19 in the past 24 hours and 30,424 known cases of the disease. The data is from the Federation of Press Vehicles, among them UOL part.

In all, 668,968 people have died of COVID-19 in the country since the start of the pandemic.

The state with the most deaths that day is São Paulo, with 19 cases, followed by Rio de Janeiro with 15, and Rio Grande do Sul with 10. Fifteen units of the union did not record deaths today.

The moving average of deaths is at 137, lower than the 149 recorded yesterday (16). Experts consider a moving average to be the most reliable way to measure the progress or regression of an epidemic, calculated from the average of deaths – or cases – in the past seven days.

With that, the moving average trend has continued to rise since the eighth, with the index today hovering between 58% in the country compared to the past 14 days. The trend is highest in 11 states and in the Federal District, stabilizing in ten states and declining in only five states.

As per the applied methodology, it is considered high when the indicator is above 15%. If it is between 15% and -15% then the trend is towards stability. Less than -15%, down.

In total, the country has accumulated 316,7199 registered cases of the disease since the beginning of the epidemic. The moving average of known cases fell below 40,000 after two days and now stands at 36,447. The index is on an uptrend, with a difference of 22% for the last 14 days. The situation is the same in the Midwest (65%), the Northeast (117%), the North (79%) and the Southeast (32%). Only in the south is the trend down, with a -30% variation.

The federal government, through the Department of Health, should be the natural source for these numbers, but the attitudes of the authorities and the president himself during the pandemic cast doubt on the availability and accuracy of the data.
