Seattle Sounders win trophies to be the first MLS team to play in the Club World Cup | international football

Major League Soccer (MLS), the major soccer league in the United States, will be the first for its representative to play in the Club World Cup in history.

In the early hours of Thursday morning, the Seattle Sounders defeated Mexico’s Pumas 3-0 at home to win the CONCACAF title, the CONCACAF Champions League.

Seattle was the third team from the United States to win the main continental championship. Before that, DC United in 1998 and LA Galaxy in 2000 were champions, but in an earlier version of the competition and without having the Club World Cup in the current form.

The hero of Seattle was the Peruvian striker Ruediaz. He scored two goals, paving the way for the title. In the first match, in Mexico, the two teams tied 2-2.

Brazilian midfielder Joao Paulo and Uruguayan midfielder Ludeiro, both former Botafogo, started for the Sounders team. Lodeiro completed the score at the end of the match.

The title also ended the dominance of Mexican teams in the Concachampions. Since 2006, all the champions of the tournament have been from Mexico. The last US team to reach the final was Los Angeles, who lost to the Tigress in the 2020 final.
