Since the official announcement of GTA VI, various rumors have emerged suggesting that the game could be delayed. Now, a former Rockstar developer claims that The game’s production has not yet reached a stage where a decision can be made to postpone it. He cites GTA IV as an example.
Obbe Vermeij, who from time to time comments on the development of the most anticipated game of the decade, now returns with a hunch, based on his experience at Rockstar, explaining that he has not heard anything and has not spoken to anyone inside the studio.
The decision to delay GTA IV came about 4 months before its original release date. Any more than that and it becomes a tough call. Rockstar may not be in a position to say whether it will launch in 2025 until mid-May.
Obi Vermeij, former rock star
GTA VI delay is an almost recurring problem.
The release window for GTA VI, according to rumors, is the end of 2025, so we could be talking about more than 12 months of waiting, and that’s a very distant deadline to know whether the game could be delayed or not, according to the former Rockstar developer.
There are high expectations about the innovations and final quality that the game will deliver and Take-Two, the owner of Rockstar, should not interfere in the production process until the developers are happy with the result they have achieved, something that Vermeij also highlights:
“GTA VI will be on sale for over 10 years and there is no competition to worry about. They won’t release the game until they are 100% happy with it. It doesn’t matter what the trailer says. Take-Two has let Rockstar make their own decisions and I don’t think there is any reason to change that now.“
Once the trailer was released, Bank of America, one of the project’s investors, said the game would be delayed, based on the content revealed in the trailer:
“The first GTA VI trailer, while exciting, didn’t contain any elements that would convince us that the game isn’t in alpha testing. Furthermore, they didn’t mention a PC release in 2025.“
This alone caused Rockstar’s stock to plummet that day. Nine months later, the subject of GTA VI’s delay has been brought up again. Let’s see, next year, who was right and who was wrong in the end.
