Queen Elizabeth cancels another public engagement – Metro World News Brasil

Queen Elizabeth has canceled a diplomatic event scheduled for next Wednesday at Windsor Castle. According to a palace statement, the Queen of the United Kingdom accepted the advice of the Foreign Secretary and decided to postpone the event at which she will meet hundreds of members of the country’s diplomatic corps.

The palace said in a statement: “The Queen has accepted the Foreign Secretary’s advice that the diplomatic reception in Windsor for 2 March should be postponed.”.

The statement did not explain the reason, but the British press confirms that the postponement of the concert will be due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Several postponed appointments

Since testing positive for Covid-19 on Sunday 20 February, Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the UK monarch has “mild symptoms of the common cold”. The Queen’s light duties include reading documents from UK government ministers and Commonwealth representatives sent to her daily, approving and signing them when necessary.

According to The Sun, a source close to Buckingham Palace said that “there are measures in place, but there has been an increase in Windsor with several cases among domestic workers.”

Since then, the Queen has canceled several virtual events in the past week, and had only one meeting with Prime Minister Boris Johnson, in which she discussed the UK’s position on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

On February 10, Prince Charles tested positive for Covid-19 and on February 15, his wife Camilla also tested positive for the virus. Prince Charles reportedly met the Queen two days ago before his positive diagnosis. Both Camilla and Charles are still in isolation.
