PS5 records more active players per month than PS4 at launch • Eurogamer.pt

The PlayStation 5 is Sony’s newest console, and with the challenging task of keeping up with the excitement of PS4, the previous generation console still hosts some of the highest profile releases from PlayStation Studios.

Despite the stock issues around the world, the PS5 managed to record a higher sales pace than the PS4, in its first seven months, but according to new information, the latest console not only outperforms its predecessor.in sales.

According to Christopher Dring, information that Sony has not yet shared is that the number of active monthly users playing the PS5 is higher than what was recorded when the PS4 launched in late 2013 and the first half of 2014.

Dring even says that the number on the PS5 is “two digits” higher than what was recorded on the PS4 and that the popular notion that the majority of stocks are in the hands of unscrupulous dealers isn’t entirely certain.

“One thing I didn’t talk about much earlier this week is that PS5 monthly users and stats for playing time are up ‘double digits’ compared to the PS4 launch,” said Dring.

“That would go against the idea that most PS5 hardware is in the hands of retailers.”

In response to his message, Dring received comments that the pandemic and backwards compatibility help explain why more people are spending more time with the PS5 than they do with the PlayStation 4, but they believe the higher numbers go against the idea that distributors have half a million in their hands. Keyboards are sold out.

“Yes, PS Plus, Astrobot, and titles set in the services, there’s a lot of reason to ramp up activity. But we wouldn’t see that if most consoles were picking up dust in someone’s warehouse,” says Dring.

In response to another comment, Dring added, “I know why there is more activity. The statistics are not surprising. But if half of them are in warehouses, that would be shocking.”

Last weekend, Sony revealed that it has sold more than 10 million consoles worldwide and that Spider-Man: Miles Morales has sold more than 6.5 million units.
