Project takes oceanography to the interior of Brazil | corporate news

The project to encourage reading and environmental education Abraça o Mar was implemented for the first time in 2022 and has been in public schools in 30 municipalities in 9 states of the country. More than 8,600 students and 972 teachers participated in the project and held 87 meetings.

What do children from the semi-arid northeast, the southernmost hinterland of Rio Grande do Sul or the Midwest have to do with the sea? This question was answered during the second half of the year by the author Thiago Cascapulho, when he visited public schools in 30 municipalities in 9 states that participated in his latest project to promote reading and environmental education in defense of water, the Abraca March.

The Abraça o Mar project has taken the reading of the children’s book “Lua, Colar, Coral, Mar” to children and educators in early childhood and primary education 1, promoting discussions, studies, artistic and textual productions and actions with environmental impact wherever it goes.

To culminate the process, Thiago Cascapolho went to the schools to speak personally with the 8,697 students and 972 teachers involved in the project, and held 87 meetings.

“We are in the midst of the ‘Decade of the Ocean’, launched by the United Nations (UN) to promote ocean science. All water is connected to the sea, and the life of the planet depends on the health of the ocean. I intend to make literature a tool to promote the vision of an interconnected world,” says Tiago Cascapulho.

In the first semester, Thiago Cascabulho implemented his other project to encourage reading, Projeto Douradinho, in 14 schools in Lagoa Santa / MG, covering more than 4 thousand students.
