A jury in Manhattan, United States, has awarded $2.78 million – the equivalent of about 15.3 million Brazilian reals – in damages to a young woman who was secretly photographed naked by her millionaire model, a fast-food entrepreneur. She is Colombian and worked as a nanny, a type of exchange where a person takes care of a family’s children while they live at home. The information is from New York Post.
Although the compensation has now been released, the case is not new. Michael Esposito, 35, was arrested in 2001 on charges of illegal surveillance. The crime carries a penalty of up to four years in prison, but he was released on condition that he undergo counseling and serve two years of probation.
The victim was 25 years old and had been in the house for three weeks when she discovered the hidden camera. According to court records, she saw Michael repeatedly touch the smoke detector in the ceiling of the room where she slept. One day, she found a camera at the scene, with a full memory card.
“This is not enough for the whole situation I went through these three years. This is not enough,” the woman told another American newspaper, The Post, about the development of the process. “I was angry because the damage he had done to me was irreparable.”
