After closing factories and halting domestic production, Ford based the restructuring on two pillars: luxury cars and commercial vehicles.
A band led by Transit was born from this second group, which returned to the country at the end of 2021 with the release of Minibus. The second part of the offensive appears in the truck segment now with the Van Edition, whose goal is the same passenger configuration: to steal sales from the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.
The composition of the transport of goods is available in two versions. The L2H3 costs R$ 239,900 and has a volumetric capacity of 10.7 cu m, as well as supporting a payload of 1,222 kg. On the other hand, the L3H3 version has a slightly larger volumetric area (12.4 m3), but its payload capacity is lower: 1,181 kg. I ordered 245,900 Brazilian riyals.
The rear compartment can be accessed through the sliding door on the right or through the rear doors, which open up to 270 degrees. Inside there are 10 hooks for fixing the goods.
From Uruguay to here
Transit is manufactured in Uruguay according to the CKD system, parts are disassembled so that the car can be assembled there by Nordex. The company even built a factory just to produce the truck.
Both versions of the Transit van feature a 2.0 turbo diesel engine. There is 170 hp and a maximum torque of 39.7 kg/m, linked to a six-speed manual transmission.
This is the same group that drives the passenger version. The point is the fact that the truck can be driven by anyone driver’s license Type B (the same required to drive a passenger car), since its total gross weight (or GWP) is no more than 3.5 tons.
Ford has invested in security to try to steal sales from rivals Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Renault Master. That’s why Transit offers the AdvanceTrac Package, which includes features like stability and traction controls, hill-start assist, torque control cornering, transverse wind stabilization, electronic roll control, and emergency braking lights.
Both versions have such elements as air conditioning, power-assisted steering, electric windows, central door locking, acoustic warning headlights, steering column with height and depth adjustment, multifunction steering wheel and 2.3 TFT display. inches on the dashboard.
The only one in its class to feature a kick-start system, Transit also offers the Sync Move multimedia center, which features an 8-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, Bluetooth connectivity, USB inputs, and two 12-volt ports. And an app store.
However, its main highlight is connectivity. The truck leaves the factory with an internal modem for integration with electronic systems. Thus, the owner (of the vehicle or fleet) can access a series of data about the vehicle through the FordPass app.
Among the available information are monthly reports with indicators for fleet owners, average consumption (monthly and yearly), Arla level 32, mileage traveled per month, and real-time vehicle location.
It is also possible to schedule maintenance services online and consult alerts regarding the condition of the vehicle. According to Ford, the system covers up to three thousand notices of malfunction, and in the most severe cases, a service center can contact the owner directly to alert him and schedule the final repair.
Ford offers a one-year or 100,000-kilometer warranty. Revisions are scheduled to be carried out at intervals of 20 thousand km.
