A meeting of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, eastern France, condemned the repeal of Roe V. Wade took away the constitutional right to abortion in America. In reaction to the growing anti-abortion movements in Europe, on Thursday, the 7th, most lawmakers argued that a resolution protecting the safe performance of the procedure should be included in the EU’s Charter of Fundamental Rights.
Stéphane Séjourne, head of the European Parliament’s liberal group Renew Europe, told the meeting that “the US has clearly shown why we must use all tools to protect abortion rights in the EU”.
“This teaches us a lesson: the human rights of women and girls can never be taken for granted, and we must always fight to protect them,” said Helen Fritsen, vice-president of the Parliamentary Alliance of Socialists and Democrats.

The EU’s resolution expressed concern about “a possible increase in the flow of funds to anti-gender and anti-choice groups around the world, including in Europe”.
The vote was 324-155, with 38 abstentions. Even if the resolution receives support, the House does not expect immediate legislative action.
