Daniel Noboa, candidate for the presidency of Ecuador, said that shooting stopped his motorcade in the city of Duran, this Thursday (17). The country’s police denied that the event was an attempt to assassinate the presidential candidate.

Legislative candidate Jonathan Barra said on Twitter that Nobua and others with him were unharmed in the incident. “Thank God we are fine,” he said. “This country is a hell for the mafia. However, they won’t stop us.”

According to Teleamazonas, a video clip shows Noboa wearing a bulletproof vest and walking with his supporters and other politicians. Moments later, shots were heard and video showed the candidate being safely transported to another location.

Noboa has alleged in the past that he has received threats. The candidate even wore a flak jacket during a debate with other candidates on Sunday (13).

Ecuador has been going through tough days since Wednesday (9), when Fernando Villavicencio, another presidential candidate, was shot dead.
