Goalkeeper Cassio made another historic mark in the Corinthians jersey on Wednesday evening, in 3-1 win over Curitiba, in the Neo Química Arena. He equaled the number of Ronaldo Giovannili matches at the club, even paying tribute to the idol of Corinthians with his gloves, designed with a checkered pattern on the back of his hand in reference to the ancient uniform of the bowler.
Casio and Ronaldo now have 602 matches for Corinthians. Both share the third place among the players who wore the white cloak most often – See the top 10 of the most represented below.
It is worth remembering that the goalkeeper can still “leave” behind him more club stars. Next in the list is Luisinho’s midfielder, Pechino Poligare, who played for Timao on 607 occasions between the 1940s and the 1960s, and the first place in the list of players with the most matches for the club belongs to the former Vladimir. The idol has 806 matches for Corinthians and scored 32 goals.
Cássio arrived in Corinthians in 2012 and it didn’t take long to start making history. There are nine titles he won. In his first season, the goalkeeper was the champion of the Libertadores and the Club World Cup.
Later, Cássio won the Brazilian Championship in two years (2015 and 2017), and was also a four-time champion of São Paulo (2013, 2017, 2018 and 2019) and a Recopa champion in 2013. Only one player has more titles than goalkeeper: Marcelino Carioca with ten cups .
