Sunday’s derby between Emelec and Barcelona de Guayaquil in the Ecuadorean Championship came to a halt after just 30 seconds of effectively rolling the ball. Confusion ensued after a goal from the Canaries in the first minute of the match, as Barcelona players became the target of things thrown onto the field by the home team’s fans. Subsequently, the goal’s cancellation with the help of the video assistant referee led to complaints from visitors. The duel did not resume after being paralyzed for 30 minutes due to insecurity between the stands and the field.

In the VAR review, the goal from Paco Rodriguez’s hand was disallowed at the origin of the play. Barcelona players did not accept the tag. The defender himself ended up hitting him with one of the objects thrown by the opposing crowd and had to be removed on a stretcher.
The teams returned to the locker rooms, and in the face of the scenario, the referee and the match delegate decided to suspend the match. The classic will resume on Monday behind closed doors.
