A Russian cruiser sank, leaving 37 dead, according to a Russian portal

The The main Russian ship sank in the Black Sea, the cruiser Moskvaleft 37 dead, according to the independent Russian portal Medusa, which quoted anonymous sources.

On board the ship – which, according to military sources, sank after being hit by two Neptune missiles – was about 500 people, about 100 of them were injured. The number of missing is still unknown.

The Medusa portal, which was declared a “foreign agent” and closed by the Russian government in March, but still operates from Latvia, cites as a source of this information the “person in charge” of the Navy in the Black Sea.

The Moskva sinking occurred last week and was confirmed by the Russian Defense Ministry, although the circumstances have not yet been established. Hours earlier, Kyiv reported several explosions on the ship due to the impact of Ukrainian missiles.

The ship attempted to tow it to a safe port while the Russian command confirmed that the crew had been evacuated. Moscow eventually confirmed the sinking, attributing it to the “conditions” caused by the storm.

The German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung claimed in its Tuesday (19) issue, based on anonymous Russian sources, that there were conscripts on board the Moskva, contrary to what the Kremlin’s official accounts say.

The sources also denied that the entire Moskva crew had been rescued.

“It’s a lie, a saucy and sarcastic lie,” wrote Dmitry Shkrebs on the Russian social network VKontakte about the official version of the Kremlin.

According to the newspaper, the eldest son of Shkrebs, Jigor, was recruited at the end of last year, in Yalta, to perform his military service on the ship Moskva, where he worked as a cook.

The newspaper claims that some journalists referred to an article published in a Russian Navy publication last December in which a photo of Jigor Shkrebs, who is known as a chef, appeared.

Dmitriy Shkrebs claims that his son is on the list of missing members of the Moskva crew.

Last weekend, the Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta, which has discontinued publication in Russia and now has a European version on the Internet, published the story of a woman whose son also served on the Moskva.

The woman, who declined to be identified for fear of reprisals, said her son survived, calling from Ukraine last Friday and telling her that 40 people had died, many more were injured and others were missing.
