A knockout during a boxing match in California, USA, created controversy and controversy. Last weekend, Ruben Torres was heavily criticized on social media for knocking down a gesture of respect between fighters at the start of the fight, minutes after touching gloves with his opponent Christian Baez.
The knockout came early in the seventh round. During the fight, both were knocked down by the opponent’s blows. Until Torres decided to use a left hook early in the round.

Referee Thomas Taylor ended the fight immediately after the hit, and Torres’ punch was deemed legal. In an interview after the fight, Ruben insisted: “The first rule of boxing is to protect yourself at all times”.
The touch of gloves is a kind of sign of fair play between fighters and demonstrates respect between two athletes. As a result, the gesture divided opinion on social media. Some netizens characterized the move as a cheat, while others supported the winning boxer’s approach.
