The famous sycamore tree in the United Kingdom was deliberately cut down
A tree in the UK bearing its name, Sycamore Gap, was cut down in the early hours of Friday (28) in an act of vandalism, police said.
Officers say they have arrested a 16-year-old man in connection with the fallen tree.
The Sycamore Gap is located in Hadrian’s Wall, a work from the time of ancient Rome that marked the borders of the Roman Empire on the island of Britain.
The tree was also known as the “Robin Hood Tree” because of a scene from the 1991 movie “Robin Hood” in which it appears.
The tree is estimated to be hundreds of years old. In 2016, it was voted ‘English Tree of the Year’.
The National Fund, which is one of those responsible for the site, stated that the news is shocking and sad.
Police said this is a nationally known site, and the felling of the tree represents a shock that causes grief and anger in the local and national community.
