Dear Editor,
I am writing in reply to the previously published letter written by J. Pickle. I would like to know the source of Mr. Pickle’s information about the meeting which took place in the Lodi library. The meeting was a group of citizens concerned about the potential impact of the new state budget and provisions in the budget repair bill on the Lodi community. Discussed were recycling, library financing, schools, and a proposal for asking Keith Ripp to come talk to Lodi citizens.

At no time was there any mention of those who disagree not” being worthy of being alive or having an opinion.” I know this because I happened to be there, which Mr. Pickle certainly was not. The citizens of Lodi need to be aware of what is afoot in Madison to make informed decisions, whether they agree with mine or not. Our goal is to gather and disseminate FACTUAL information, not to slur our neighbors. Mr. Pickle seems to have that down already.

As far as boycotting businesses, I do not recall that being discussed, but I would point out that the Supreme Court of the United States has ruled that money equals speech in the Citizens United case. Until the first amendment of the constitution is repealed, I believe I have the right to exercise free speech, including doing business with those whom I trust and want to support. I may choose those businesses for a variety of reasons, be it service, dependability or how that business spends its profits. I would suggest that Mr. Pickle have his Lodi ducks in a row before he accuses me of being hateful. You HAVE the right to your opinion, sir. What you do not have is a right to create your own facts.

Pat Bishop
