The Ice Age Trail Lodi Chapter held a Summer Solstice Hike on June 21,  at the new Gibraltar Segment. This new trail section encompasses the Colsac Section and the Murphy property off Slack Road in the Town of West Point. This was the first time I hiked this segment in its entirety, and I was more than thrilled with the trail, the vistas of Lake Wisconsin, Devils Head, meadows and old oak savannahs being re-established.

Relaxing in the woods

We were entertained by trivia questions during the hike offered by the host of the day, Ross and Connie, who can be found volunteering at most of the area IAT events as well.¬† I think my favorite spot was the “wooden sofa” that was at almost the midway point between the old and new trail segments. I think I could have sat there all day, if it weren’t for the bugs.

Take a look at the IAT Summer Solstice video that I put together after enjoying the company of fellow hikers.

Nothing like a lakeside potluck to end a hike

At the end of the hike the group reconvened on Lake Wisconsin for a potluck  and took refuge from the thunderstorms that blew in across the lake.
