The Lodi ski teams traveled to the North Kettle Moraine on Sunday, January 22, for the Greenbush Nordic Challenge hosted by Plymouth/Sheboygan. The Lodi boy’s high school team finished second behind Waukasha Peak Nordic. Lodi was led again by Elliot Statz who finished the 6 kilometer skate race in 7th place. Cory Conway and Sam Taylor finished 10th and 11th overall followed by James Saager (18th), Jacob Hargis (19th), Garrett Patrick (20th), Tyler Pedracine (23rd), and Brice Maier (28th).

The Lodi girl’s high school team, led by Sydney Endres (8th), finished third. Paige Nichols (9th), Chelsea Buchanan (12th), Rachel Porter (16th), Melissa Kohlhagen (17th), Bethany Patrick (19th), and Madeline Tompach (23rd) rounded out the scoring for the Lodi girls.

Coach Fanney comments, “I was especially proud of Rachel Porter who broke her leg on a steep downhill with a sharp turn in this race last year. She came back and raced again without any hesitation and skied through that hilly turn at full speed.”

In the girl’s middle school race, Aiden Campbell took home a third place medal. The middle school boys were led by Sam Keller (12th), followed by Peter Gundeck (13th), Joel Fugere (15th), Nathan Taylor (16th), and Matt Saager (17th).

The Lodi ski teams will head to Lapham Peak in Delafield for the South Conference Championships on Saturday, January 22 and the Madison Invitational on Tuesday, January 25th.

The Lodi ski trails are in excellent condition for both skating and classical technique. Volunteers groom the trails on a regular basis for cross country skiing. Dogs, hikers and people snowshoeing are asked to stay to the side to minimize trail damage.
