Lodi, WI
by Gail & Lyn & the entire Market Team

You, dear vendors, have made the start of our Lodi Valley Farmers’ Market a great success!

We share with you our enthusiasm for a spectacular market season for 2009. You certainly set the tone with your faithful presence and your outstanding products.  You’re putting the Lodi market on the map as a regular Friday afternoon stop for many buyers.  We see many folks returning week after week.  Have so many plants ever left the market before?  Your quality is what keeps folks coming back.

With spring behind us, we’re ready to welcome the start of summer with special June events:

Friday  June   5    Strawberry Social with take home recipes
Friday  June 12    Lazy Library Daze promoting Lodi’s summer adult reading program
Friday  June 19    Father’s Day
Friday  June 26    Get Grilling with more sizzling recipes to try!

And we’re looking for your ideas to expand our range of clever fun events to bring folks to the market.  Help Lyn and Gail think outside the box.  We’ve initiated a 5th Friday Market GiveAway  (May, July, October).  We’ll be having a free drawing for four $5 ‘Magic Market Money’ certificates and some vendors have offered their products to include as well. We’re hoping it will encourage folks to tell friends and shop even more.

As you can see our vendor base is increasing.  The experience of the veteran vendors has been rubbing off on the novices. Thanks so much for keeping your parking close to each other so we can make room for all of you. We will park the day vendors in the order in which they arrive. We’ll probably need to be parking on the gravel with the wet weather we’ve been having lately.  Your cooperation is most appreciated!

As you all know, one very important focus of our farmers’ market is our partnership with the Lodi Area Food Pantry.  We have accepted donations of fresh produce from the community and from our generous vendors for five years now, and the recipients, both families in need and seniors unable to attend the market, are very appreciative of the nutritious, seasonal fruits and vegetables offered to our program. Donations can be accepted at any time during market hours at the market barn.

And, in order to help facilitate your contribution and not take you away from your market space and your customers, this year we will soon have a weekly volunteer that will walk around the market pulling a wagon, visiting with vendors, and accepting any donations late in the market day.  This volunteer will wear a bright green safety vest for you to spot should you wish to participate.  We are also inviting our community of market and pantry supporters to come to the market, pick up one of our new Lodi market/food pantry bags (details to come!), buy fresh produce from vendors, and then donate it at the market barn. This new system should be a win-win-win for everyone involved.

Again, many thanks for doing your part to make our market a success.  We appreciate all of you and hope you have the best season ever here at the Lodi Valley Farmers’ Market!
