I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the Lodi Area Food Pantry to express our deep appreciation for the support and contributions that have been made to this all-community project.  Not only this year but in seasons past, the vendors who come each week to Lodi have made a difference in the lives and healthy eating habits of our area families who have benefitted from your generosity.

We have mainly concentrated on our older people and they love our coming by each Saturday for a variety of reasons.   We have many who once toiled the way you do now.  They had large gardens on their farms and each summer waited for the rain, picked and pickled and canned for the months that lay ahead.  I can’t tell you how many times they have told us of the wonderful memories those fresh vegetables invoked.  Snipping beans, cutting off beet tops, snapping peas, shucking corn, cutting up tomatoes for the cannery, and just knowing that they were grown in our rich Wisconsin soil.

It is especially vital now in these tough, economic times.  We have people who are literally making decisions, “Do I buy that heart medicine or do I eat this week?”  One woman greeted us with tears one Saturday morning as she literally said were it not for the plate full of fresh vegetables she would be fixing, she was going to have to go on one meal that day because she had to buy blood pressure medicine the day before.  If you don’t think you don’t make a difference, you should come with us some Saturday morning and see what you do for them.

Thank you to Gail and Lyn who without their steadfast and determination to make this a positive and truly life-changing project for those who live among us and in need, it wouldn’t get done.  Thank you to the vendors for your willingness to share.

Bless you most of all, for caring,

Sincerely,

Judy Brownrigg
