Don & Friends provided some tasty tunes for market-goers.

The barn door tells the tale.  Larry the Leek (former chief poster boy of the Lodi Valley Farmers’ Market) move aside– you’ve got some serious competition.   Last Friday Don and Friends not only gave us a great afternoon of music, Don’s very own poster was on the barn door telling folks about his music in the gazebo. Mighty handsome there, Don.!!  Larry you’ve got the best guys in the county competing with you.

Twenty-seven, 27, yes, seven and twenty vendors came with trucks, cars, trailers and vans full of plants and plentitude for your pleasure.  Last Friday, first time vendors and a hundred times return vendors brought delights for you to choose from.  You couldn’t go wrong even if you tried. We got a hint of what’s ahead for the summer.  Folks told us that the plants not sold at the market are going into the ground for produce later.  Did you meet the boys who planted an acre (you read that correctly an acre) of tomato plants? 3,500 at their count with some to left to spare.

Great news about the Friday 5/29 market!  We’re kicking off our first “5th Friday Market Give Away” of the summer.  You can enter your name in a drawing for “Market Money” shopping certificates.  Tom Pritzke is donating a couple of pounds of asparagus for your weekend pleasure.  I guarantee your chance of winning is better than the Power Ball or the Wisconsin Lottery and it costs you nothing to enter the drawing.  Stop by the table at the Market barn to enter your name, address and phone number.  In addition to signs, chairs, umbrellas, coolers, tape, twine, rakes, and shovels we keep in the barn, there is a lot good luck stored there just waiting for you!

Strawberry season is just around the corner.  If you have a favorite strawberry recipe, drop it off at the table and then next week we’ll share it with others who come to the market.  Couldn’t be better than to pick up your strawberries and a tested recipe that is guaranteed beyond delicious!!

The Lodi Valley Farmer’s Market is held on Friday afternoons from 2 – 6 May through October at the Northern Edge Restaurant, located at N1430 Highway 113, Lodi, WI.
