Never let it be said that the Lodi Valley Farmers’ Market is for the faint of heart!! Rain! Cold wind! Not a problem for this crew! Good food, great plants and fun products will conquer the weather any day in Lodi. Deep green plants, red rhubarb, every hue of petunias, golden marigolds and earthy color morels made it a bright market in spite of no sunshine.
True to our theme of “plant your garden”. Pam our master gardener (MG) answered questions and shared peoples concern about the predicted frost for the weekend. She was right as usual!
Three new vendors arrived on Friday. One was a student in grade school that brought some plants that she grew, rhubarb and morels that she picked. We start them young and keep them past retirement at our market.
Friday May 22nd kicks off the musical Memorial Day market. While you shop, Don & Buck and friends will serenade you. You won’t have to sing for your supper, the musicians will do it for you. Stay tuned for the following week’s Fifth Friday give away basket.
I’ve been reading about leeks to learn more about our “no-show” Larry the Leek. I discovered “leeks need a quick bath before cooking.” Our poster boy’s photo got a bath on the barn door because of the rain. Do you think Larry got lost in the shower?
The Lodi Valley Farmer’s Market is held on Friday afternoons from 2 – 6 May through October at the Northern Edge Restaurant, located at N1430 Highway 113, Lodi, WI.
