When we scheduled the “get grilling” market for Friday June 25th were not thinking of grilling our own hides.  It was a scorcher!  Never to be called “wimps” our vendors showed up in good spirits with garden goodies galore!  The first beans and (probably) the last asparagus were at the vendor booths.     As always, you can get the expected and unexpected at the Lodi market.

In addition to great food, I have no doubt that the Lodi Valley Farmers’ Market has the best spirit for 5 counties around.  How else would you account for squirt guns and popsicles as part of the 90 degree mix?  Lyn saw license plates from 3 states and Wisconsin–good news about the Lodi market travels far and fast!

Speaking of good spirit….

The Independence Day market on Friday July 3rd will roll out our new wagon and also our market bags!  LVFM has partnered with the Lodi food pantry to provide elderly and homebound folks and others in need with fresh local produce for a number of years.   Our vendors have graciously donated produce, customers have purchased fresh produce and donated it to the pantry and citizens with overflowing gardens have brought generous donations of their garden’s bounty to share with the pantry.  This year a small wagon will make the market rounds to collect food.  We serve as the collection point with a huge cooler in the market barn.  The food pantry volunteers come and break those donations down into individual distributions for their clients and generously distribute “fresh & local” on Saturday.

Please join us on Friday for our first wagon roll out!  Make your produce contribution to the wagon.  We won’t christen it with champagne, instead we’ll give our vendors lemonade to ease the heat of the day.  We love our vendors!  They are so nice to all of us, we want to be more than nice to them!

The Lodi Valley Farmers’ Market bags have arrived!  Classy but reasonable–just like us.  For $10 you can have your own bag and support the market.  To initiate the bags we are offering you an opportunity for the Independence day market.  Come to the market table and purchase your market bag (your very own personal investment in the best market around!)  The first person to fill that bag products from the market and donate those purchases to the food pantry will be reimbursed for the cost of the bag and have the bag personally autographed by the market coordinator and the market site manager.  (OK, our autographs may not be worth as much as Michael Jackson’s, but we’re still here.) You win, the food pantry wins, market vendors win and

fireworks will light the sky to celebrate!

Speaking of not so good spirit….

No Larry the leak at Friday’s market. Is our poster boy shy or just lost? Rumor has it that someone drew a mustache on his poster on the market barn door.  Is Larry going undercover?

The Lodi Valley Farmer’s Market is held on Friday afternoons from 2 – 6 May through October at the Northern Edge Restaurant, located at N1430 Highway 113, Lodi, WI.
