Rides to the top of Gibraltar Rock

On Saturday, May 21 , rides to the top of Gibraltar Rock will be available for people unable to make the climb on their own. The Friends of Scenic Lodi Valley Gibraltar Rock Team, the Town of West Point, and the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Columbia County are joining together to have a wheelchair accessible van available from 10 am to 3 pm to provide transportation to the top of the Rock.

Gibraltar Rock has held a valued place in the life of the community for many years. Families have picnicked there, and walkers and hikers have climbed to the summit to admire the views for decades. This is an opportunity for those who would like to remember those days to once again look out from the top of one of Columbia County ’s highest points.

Those interested in riding to the top of the Rock can start at the Okee Community Center, Located on Hwy V in Okee , beginning at 10 am and continuing throughout the day until 3 pm. There will be light refreshments and lunch available at the Okee Community Center . The DVD “Rocks of Gibraltar” by Daniel Pertzborn will be shown throughout the day.

Diane Pillsbury, Centennial Coordinator with the DNR’s department of Natural Resources Devil’s Lake State Park , will provide a talk on the geology of Gibraltar Rock, at the top of the rock at 1:00 pm and answer any questions. Seating will be available.

Everyone is welcome to come to Gibraltar Rock and walk to the top at any time during the day.
