Nelson and Kirking to Perform at United Methodist Church

Jerry Nelson and Cheryl Kirking will be in concert together on Sunday, July 18th, 7:00 p.m. at the Lodi United Methodist Church.  Both grew up in Lodi and went on to careers in the  performing arts.  Nelson, a former actor who lives in New York, describes himself as  “basically a folkie, with influences from Broadway and the American songbook. ” He has performed off and on-Broadway, and for several years Lodi High School alum enjoyed his talents as host and emcee of the LHS Alumni Reunion Concerts.   Kirking is a songwriter and author of several books, including “Ripples of Joy” (Random House) and a frequent contributor to the popular Chicken Soup for the Soul Series. She has recorded 6 CDs of orginal songs.

The concert together will be  “casual and fun,” says Kirking. “We’re looking forward to harmonizing together. We’;ll do some solos and duets, original songs and gospel favorites, and some singalong folk songs from the 60’s and 70’s.”  A CD and booksigning will follow the concert.

The concert promises to have something for everyone.  The Lodi UMC is located at 130 Locust Street in Lodi. A free will offering will be taken. All are warmly invited to attend.
