Lodi Area XC Ski Club 2nd Annual Wife Carrying Contest
Test your Strength and Win Your Wife’s Weight in Beer and Cash!

Carry a wife, any wife, and win her weight in beer!

Carry a wife, any wife, and win her weight in beer!

The Lodi Area XC Ski Club presents the 2nd Annual Wife Carrying Contest to be held on Sunday, July 12th, 2009, at Habermann Park, Lodi, WI.  Dating back to nineteenth century Finland where bandits would steal women from villages, this contest consists of a male competitor transporting his wife (however, she does not have to be the legal wife of the male) over a short obstacle course for the fastest time.

The main contest, Wife Carrying, will test the male’s strength and wit as he physically carries the female over jumps and bridges.  The grand winner of this contest will win their “wife’s” weight in BEER and CASH!  If that sound’s too tough, try the Wife Ferrying Contest open to ages 15 and over.  Wheelbarrows will be provided for this event and the grand winner will take home a case of local beer or sports drink.  Children ages 5-15 are encouraged to enter in the Kid’s Duck Carrying Dash.

That’s not all, however.  This year will offer more awards, cheaper registration fees for team events, bigger and stronger competition, and a harder course.  Come carry a lady and laugh your head off!

All proceeds of the event go directly to the Lodi Area XC Ski Club in effort to promote cross-country skiing.  Registration begins at noon with races starting on a rolling schedule at 1:00 p.m.  For more information regarding the 2nd Annual Wife Carrying Contest, contact Hannah Fanney at 608-592-7817 or fanneha@gmail.com.  Go to www.madison.com/communities/lodiski for race rules and registration forms.
