Help Needed in the Rain Garden

Lodi Valley News serving Lodi, WI & the Lake Wisconsin area with local information since Earth Day 2008.

Hello Friends of Scenic Lodi Valley,

We know from data that has been collected that the Lodi Rain Garden across from the primary school is benefitting our local waterway, Spring Creek. We also know that not everyone appreciates the “less formal” look that is characteristic of a rain garden.

The Friends of Scenic Lodi Valley Rain Garden Team is working hard this year to maintain the garden so that it doesn’t get as overgrown as in years past.  We need your help in doing some digging/weeding to help us get rid of cup plants (nice plants with a pretty flower, but they’ve really taken over), dandelions, and creeping charlie. If you’re not sure what a cup plant looks like, here’s a link to a website that pictures it: http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=SIPE2

You can go to the rain garden to pull these plants whenever it fits into your schedule…or get a few people together so you can visit while you dig! Please pile any plants  on the grass just to the side of the entrance to the rain garden path; the city will pick them up and dispose of them.

Thank you for finding just a bit of time to help out in the rain garden. The job can’t get done without a number of willing volunteers.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Patti Herman
