We did it again—weather encouraged more vendors and shoppers than ever to appear and Larry the Leak left me in a lurch.  19 vendors brought more goodies than Larry has roots from the top of his head.  Customers came in search of early spring garden asparagus, rhubarb, sprouts and morels and found many choices to put on their tables.  Bedding plants by the car load (that is not an exaggeration) came in and out of the market.

Mothers and the children of mothers took seeds home from the market give away to plant in their gardens.  Some folks promised to come back later in the season and sell their bounty.  Many thanks to Olds seeds for their generous donation of seed packets.

Speaking of gardens, Friday May 15th at the market is “Plant Your Garden” day.  In addition to a large array of plants for you to choose from, the Master Gardener (MG) team will be there for you.  Not only will you get your plants, you can also have expert advice to make them thrive.

I’ve yet to see the person who has stumped our resident Master Gardener, Pam.  I love sitting next to her for the afternoon.  Poor innocent folks will sometimes come up to me and ask me a question about gardening.  (I think they didn’t happen to notice the two black thumbs at the end of my hands.)  Without a doubt Pam has the answer and often times a brochure to take along home.  Do you know what kind of plants to keep the deer away?  Check with Pam and she’ll tell you.

See you next Friday as I (patiently) wait for Larry my love to show up. Do you think I have to join a bleeding hearts club?—heck no, the MGs would just tell me it’s a pretty pink plant I can admire much more easily than loving Larry.

The Lodi Valley Farmer’s Market is held on Friday afternoons May through October at the Northern Edge Restaurant, located at N1430 Highway 113, Lodi, WI.
