Spring has arrived and no doubt spring weather will soon arrive, and with it the sounds of frogs calling. On Thursday, April 16, at 7:30 p.m. you’ll have a chance to learn to identify the various frogs that can be heard in the Lodi Valley. Randy Korb, Wildlife Educator, will lead a fun and educational Frog Night Hike for frog lovers of all ages. The free event starts at Lodi Elementary School where participants will learn which frogs live in Wisconsin, listen to frog calls, handle live frogs, and have a chance to ask questions about the lives of frogs. After the indoor presentation the group will move to a marshy area to hike with Randy in order to look and listen for frogs in their natural habitat.

Patti Herman, event organizer, has attended Randy’s Frog Night Hike in the past and is excited about bringing him to Lodi. “Randy is so knowledgeable about frogs and has a wonderful way of sharing that knowledge with people of all ages. He’s especially great with youth.”  While in Lodi on April 16 Randy will be doing daytime presentations to Lodi Elementary School students. The night hike will be a chance for those students and all the rest of us to learn more from Randy and identify frogs in their natural environment.

Randy Korb was born and raised in Clintonville, Wisconsin. He developed a deep appreciation for nature from an early age, an appreciation which grew out of his first-hand experiences with birds, frogs, and turtles that lived right outside his back door. Randy earned his master’s degree in environmental education and interpretation from UW-Stevens Point and has been doing wildlife education presentations for the past twenty years. He currently lives in St. Croix Falls.

The Frog Night Hike is free and open to the public. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Participants are reminded to wear appropriate footwear and clothing. This community event is sponsored by the Friends of Scenic Lodi Valley-Lodi Reads Leopold Team and the Lodi Valley Chapter of the Ice Age Park and Trail Foundation. Questions can be directed to Patti Herman at or 592-5666.
