Who We Are

The Lodi Valley News has three missions.

  • Local.
  • Local.
  • Local.

We aim to keep our news and advertising local, our photographs local and our community announcements local. As we said from the beginning, this is Your new online newspaper. But, human nature being what it is, people have begun to wonder: who is leading this brave new adventure? The truth is, all of us.

A group of interested folks began meeting in January to start to gnaw on this big question. Would a local online newspaper work in a small town like Lodi? There were about a hundred reasons it wouldn’t, but the organizers kept saying: Wouldn’t it be great?

Rog Severson got the L.O.D.I. involved so its board could watch the process. Roger Seaver had the courage to offer to do the graphic arts for the web page and has done an amazing job. Pulled it out of the air, literally. Gary N-Ski has offered his photographs at no cost and many others have submitted news stories about their own organizations or interests. Peg Zaemisch is back in town and she is offering her column “Pegged Right” and some short stories to help flesh out the news in these early days.

Who owns it? No one really. We are just some folks who put the First Amendment above all others. Freedom of the Press becomes less free everyday. But, here with the help of the Internet and this LodiValleyNews.com website we can breathe the rarified air of journalism in its purest form. We hope to do that with the contributions of people who care and the community support.

Sure, we are going to have to figure out the financial puzzle at some point and far smarter people than I are putting their pencils to that portion. We need to be sustainable. How is all coming together? We are just as idealistic as we were in the beginning. Wouldn’t it be wonderful?

Setting policy thus far:

The Lodi Valley News is a community, online newspaper that will be available 24/7 at this site. It will be weekly in general, with updates as needed.

Our policy is to promote freedom of speech. We ask contributors to observe only a few rules. First, common courtesy. Address an issue that has sparked your concern, without placing blame on an individual (unless the comments are related to the actions of an elected official in his or her role). Please be sure of your facts.

Please submit your letters with your name included. We may be checking to confirm the source of the letters.

If you are a candidate for a local office and you would like your views known – please submit your thoughts. We are hoping to encourage more public dialogue about the things that are important to us.
